"Adult" victims of the Anti-Terror Law

The Parliament passed the children-related amendments to the Anti-Terror Law (TMK). From now on, children will be tried only in designated Children’s Courts.

With the amendments, children can still be sentenced to heavy penalties, but the minimum and maximum sentencing limits are now lower. With the new amendments, children who participate in illegal rallies or meetings now have a minimum sentencing time of six months, rather than one and a half years. On the other hand, there have not been any changes at the maximum time, which is still three years.  For the identified organizers of the illegal rallies, sentencing will be applied with a half-time increase.

For demonstrators that bear Molotov cocktail, stones, sticks, guns (even with a license), or carry propaganda materials for illegal organizations, the minimum sentencing has been lowered from two years to six months, and maximum sentencing has also been lowered from five years to three years.

With the changes, released children will be tried in designated Children’s Courts, instead of the High Criminal Court.
