No pass to the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Convoy!
The BDP Convoy departed from Diyarbakir on Wednesday to Dortyol town of Hatay, to investigate the attacks against the Kurds.
However, security forces stopped the convoy of 50 cars before it reached its destination. On Monday, there were attempts to lynch Kurds living in Hatay, Dortyol.
The convoy left Diyarbakir around 6 am on Thursday with about 25 cars. Co-chairs of BDP, Selahattin Demirtaş and Gülten Kışanak, were present. 25 more vehicles joined the convoy at Gaziantep and Sanliurfa. The convoy was first stopped on the way-out of Gaziantep, where police checked identities. Soon after the first check, the convoy was stopped again around Duzici for another security clearance.
A Special Forces Unit using barricades stopped the convoy once again before it entered Hatay. Ibrahim Binici, BDP’s Member of the Parliament from Sanliurfa, talked to the security forces, but the convoy was not allowed to enter to Dortyol on grounds that the Governorship of Hatay banned all entries to the city to prevent further provocative acts.
After meeting with the army and police personnel, BDP members declared that they were committed to getting into the city, no matter what. However, they returned to Diyarbakir after all diplomatic attempts to enter the city failed.
